Tan Crackers Soul Club - Fri 30 March @ Kings Cross Hotel
It's on again folks. We're back again at our new home at the Kings Cross Hotel.
This time around our special guest is none other than Katalyst, one od the best
Australian hip-hop producers putting in work, and a prolific record collector and
DJ to boot. He's got new stuff out soon through his Invada Records imprint, so
keep an eye out for that. In the meantime, you can get down to his favourite
funk 45s on 30 March @ Tan Crackers Soul Club along with Gian, Tom, Alex and
myself. Hit me up via email for door list action.

Radio Interview
If you were at the Kings Cross Hotel last night, you already know that Tan Crackers Soul Club was off the fucking chain! Lot's of great comments, props and thankyous on our Facebook page confirm it! But while I'm here, radio presenter and all around creative type Michele Freeman (who I saw at Tan Crackers last night gettin' down) did an interview with me and a couple of other Sydney DJ heavyweights last year. Check out her Radio Documentaries Blog and the 'Collectors' interview she did with us.
Stay tuned for Tan Cracker's in March!
Peace

Mixes
What up people. It's been a minute since I've updated this blog here. Just re-uped a few mixes I have been asked for recently, so here we go:
Tonic Lounge Mix - this was my first live set at Tonic Lounge back in 06 and it's still pretty damn good if you ask me.
Tom Rock rough Hip-hop mix - Tom Rock asked me to do a mix a while back for his awesome Hardcore Classix radio show. Never got around to finishing this, but here's the rough draft. Heavy on the hip-hop.
Tan Crackers Soul Club mixes - they get moved off the Soundcloud page on the regular but most of mine can be found here.

Tan Crackers Soul Club returns for 2011
That's right party peoples. You know you've been missing good quality soul music in Sydney since we broke up last year. Well, I'm here to tell you that the TCSC crew is back with the best music that Australia's cultural capital has to offer (yeah, that's right - Melbourne, you might have a cool scene, but the temperature is a deal breaker). For our re-launch in 2011, Gian has secured Good God Small Club, one of the hottest new venues and in a great central CBD location. With the best of the best Tan Crackers regulars including Gian Arpino, The Boogie Monster and myself, you can expect a quality night of killer soul, funk, latin, R&B and disco that's truly unavailable anywhere else in our fair city. Come on down if you wanna get down for a seriously good night. Sat 12 March 2011, 10pm - the crack of freakin' dawn!

Australia Day = Aussie Funk Vol.1 Revisited!
Since Australia Day (26 January) was a couple of days ago, The Soul Of Sydney website that promotes all things musically Australian decided to do revisit my Aussie Funk mix from 2006 in order to celebrate the day. Cheers to Sammy for the appreciation and interest in good Australian music. You can check it out here. Plenty of other good stuff on his blog too, including a mix by a mate of mine.

Weekly Radio Podcast: When The Levee Breaks 2SER 107.3fm
Hey everyone,
just a quick headz-up to let you know that I'm now hosting a weekly radio program along with fellow music obsessives Peter Pascal (Creative Vibes label founder) and Sage-One (Sydney B-boy and DJ). The show is a little peak into our crates / private mind garden. We play good music across a variety of genres such as funk, soul, jazz, progressive rock, hip-hop, boogie, and some new releases as well. What we can promise about the show is that there will be lots of music that you won't hear on other similar radio shows, and that will be both informative and entertaining in our presentation!

Tan Crackers Soul Club - July 2010
Tan Crackers Soul Club @ Tonic Lounge has been going from strength to strength over the last few months, with a bigger and better crowd each month. Since the current venue has reached it's capacity (READ: full + line outside = let's find a bigger place), August will see Tan Crackers debut at the newly renovated TONE venue in Surry Hills, owned and operated by your friend and mine, BC from the SWAT DJ collective.
Check out my set from Tan Crackers' last Tonic Lounge set - such a good night, and thanks to those that have already checked out this set or given me great feedback. You can stream the set here @ Soul Strut or download the mix for a limited time on the TCSC Soundcloud page.

Euro Funk Mix: The Subtle Art Of Self Destruction
A couple of years ago I started this mix with the intention of eventually pressing up a limited number of copies for sale and promo. With the help of a friend who is primarily into techno and hard house, I set about recording and editing the mix over a number of months. But due to time, availability, and changing priorities, the mix took a long time to eventually complete. It was also at least a year ago that my then girlfriend (and now wife) started work designing the cover art for this project which you see above. I really like it, and I think it really conveys the mood of the mix. I hope you enjoy this aptly titled mix. Expect to hear obscure Euro and world funk, breaks, dark jazz, funk and rock.

I'm playing this Saturday at Tonic, and this time it's going to be 3 hours of disco fire heating up the dancefloor, with some northern soul rounding out the evening. Here's a flyer from a few months back that I only just found!
Also, stay tuned for a recording of the set to be upped shortly after Saturday night.

This is hands-down Sydney's best funk and soul night, and not to be missed. Expect top quality dancefloor funk and nothern soul @ Tonic Lounge.

Aussie Funk mix available for download
DJ Kinetic - Aussie Funk Vol. 1 (2006)
I put this mix together back in 2006 because i wanted to do something to showcase the time and effort I'd put in to tracking down and discovering some of the best funky music that Australia produced. I was heavily influenced at the time by Creative Vibes' Respect Overdue compilation series which sought to do the same thing. Peter Pascal - a founding member of the CV label - later became a good friend of mine as a result of our common interest in Aussie Funk.
The front cover of this mix actually depicts each and every record used in the mix, in order, but with one mistake - I think George Golla and Arena are switched around the wrong way for some reason!
Enjoy!
